I love this post. How exciting you got to hear Rev. William Barber! He was the commencement speaker at my seminary graduation in 2016 and he has quite the presence and radical (for America) message. We need to hear it. I was going to ask you if you'd read or heard about Matthew Desmond's new book but then you had a photo of it! I haven't read it but read an interview in Sojourners with him, and it was SO powerful and I want to read the book. Allowing poverty in this country, with the wealth we have available, is a choice. Love how the tarot cards were integrating so well with the message too, as they often do!!

I’m reading so much about fascism (thanks DL) and it’s shocking to hear how quickly othering happens and how poor people in particular are just “lazy” or “spending our tax dollars” etc etc. it’s still hard to see how little xtians want to take Jesus’ words seriously. I don’t know if I’ll ever get over it.

Thank you for this. In the Thoth deck 10 of Disks is called "Wealth." I think about this often, in the context of capitalism and colonial-patriarchy. What is true wealth and how have we confused ourselves by striving for that which has been detached from earthly realms (money being divorced from reality so it does not rot when its hoarded). How do we subvert this system created around the "cost of living" when we are so embedded within it?

Mmm. Yes, “so it doesn’t rot when it’s hoarded”... I love that image. Resisting this world-that-is proves more challenging every day, but I am consoled by the work of humans like Dr Barber and political organizers like ai-jen poo.
