“What is my sacred work and who are my collaborators?” is the perfect distillation of the liberating questions I’ve been following, like a thread out of the labyrinth, for the past year.
love this! I'm also focused on creating a sacred container for my creative process. my word for the year is "ritual," so I am thinking about combining my spiritual work with my writing in generative ways. also, I am very much in a river phase, connecting it to themes of resilience and yearning. here's some recent river writing, in case it's of interest! https://hannaheve.substack.com/p/on-rivers-and-resilience
My morning walks this season are in the dark. Last night we received a little bit of snow, just enough to cover all the obviously ice spots, so I was very careful and grateful the darkness covered my very inelegant penguinish shuffle most of the way. I've already fall once – the first time in years! – and was a little alarmed to have the 45# weight plate I carry in the pack on my back make such a vigorous effort to drive my face into the gravel. 😂
Oh gosh!! 😅 I’m glad you’re ok. I took a spill last winter in my very small backyard going out to feed the chickens. It was shocking how quick I went from upright to spread eagle 😂 thankfully my walk this week was just wet and not icy yet - we’ll get out first days of below zero next week I’m afraid!
Really enjoyed this post, Lindsey. I noted the difference between adult Lindsey enjoying watching the rain flows and child Lindsey jumping in with both feet!! 😅
I would love to see more of your puddles inspired sketchbook. And the alter is a calming thing to behold. As I am starting at the picture, I can feel a wave of sigh passing through my body, swelling in my chest and escaping my mouth. Thank you for sharing your practice 💜
Thank you, Swarnali 💜 maybe I will share more sketchbook pages, I am working on growing my habits. I’m glad you found some peace from our altar space too - it’s one of my favorite spots in the house.
It's month 4 of rain here in Seattle and the crows are tearing up the grass to eat invasive grubs. The ground looks scarred, mud is everywhere, and half the storm gutters in my neighborhood are clogged with leaves. These things tend to make me grumpy as I walk through winter, so I appreciate the reframe of wonder. Grateful for this growing Substack community.
I love crow sightings! A spiritual teacher used to always talk about their jester energy, so whenever I encounter one (or three) I'm always wondering, "What am I seeing that's not really what I think it is?" Proud of you you for making time for the walk amidst the schedule changes—it's hard to give yourself permission as a mama to take time for self-care, but it's so important for our mental vitality and how we show up for our families.
Yes, thank you 🩷 I love that question to consider when a crow is nearby! These 5 frequent my neighborhood but are always way up in the trees so I haven’t been able to befriend them with peanuts yet 😂
Love that too about Substack as an altar!
It’s stuck with me since reading it! ✨
Your altar is beautiful. I love the purples with the oranges.
Also...I so agree with you about burbling creek sounds. I came across a creek during my retreat and just stood there listening for like 5 minutes. 💜
Thank you! I love this color combo too!

Next time I should wear my rain boots!

I hate when winter is muddy and not snowy, but I’m glad you have some crow friends too.
I absolutely love that pentacles card art!
Thanks Kandi! I usually caption the photo 🤦🏻♀️ that’s the transient light tarot!
It's gorgeous! I'll have to add it to my tarot TBR.
