I loved the story of the woman talking about Gov. Whitmer! As a Michigander, I have appreciated her work in this state. And I loved the way you connected this to the Fool archetype!

Thanks Kandi, I wasn’t sure if it was going to work but the connection just kept coming back up for me. And yes, she has been a wonderful governor and leader!

I love this too! I’m working on an essay about holding two completely different political vibes in close domestic proximity right now, and Lindsey’s reaction and tensing when politics came up in public was soooooo familiar to me. I salute this cheerful, undeterred Fool!

I was feeling like a fool today, over the writing I’m working on. Some inner (outer?) voice reminding me that people (patriarchy) like women small and conventional, and I was *almost* winning at patriarchy 10 years ago so WTF am I doing now?

I’m being the fool 🙃

I think deconstruction requires pure Fool energy! Sending a lot of care and gentleness your way as I’ve also been fighting the inner (outer) voices this week.

Yes, I receive that! And somehow fool energy feels necessary when the world is run by tricksters. Like when we try too hard to respond very wisely we just wind up playing right into their hand.

Mmm yes. 👏🏽

Gah this is such a beautiful post. That fool picture! What looks foolish in uncertainty. That Valentine! Your altar. Thank you, girl. I hope your copilot / coparent is home to join the ranks 💞 Me too, on schedules. My inner writing fools are bucking broncos 🐎🧘🏽‍♀️🐎

Yes, broncos 😂😂they will not be tamed!

And he’s back, thank goddess

I'd totally forgotten that's where I read that trickster story! 😂 I love that book. Thank you for reminding me! And for these thoughts about tricksters, fools, and trusting our gut. 💪💖

😂😂thank you for the recommendation! I really enjoyed the audiobook and this story was fantastic. lol.

It was! I should try the audio. The second book's already been published but not out in the U.S. yet. I have it on order! My Canadian friends say it's good.

Are you familiar with the black forager? (She’s on TikTok and insta if you use either of those) I thought of you last week because she posted about foraging/eating foods off public land….or how there is nowhere to get free food anymore.

No! But she sounds like someone I would love to know about. I do not have any other social media than Substack, and I can't start up again. My addictive tendencies are too strong (even Notes has become a problem for me). Which is a bummer because despite all its harms there are so, so many good people doing interesting and wonderful things out there, and those platforms are how you find them!

I heard an incredible podcast interview a year or so ago about ginseng foragers in America. I didn't know ginseng grew naturally in the U.S.! There's a whole history to it, too. I love learning about that stuff. And how important it is to be able to maintain access to it. People have a right to survival without having to mediate it through a paycheck! (Okay, quitting now before I end up with another "thank you for coming to my TED talk," LOL.)

I get it! (Notes is problematic for me too 🙃) Her name is Alexis Nikole Nelson - I’m sure you can find her on a podcast or two! She’s from Ohio so I love how she talks about native food that I had no idea was local to me - my husband just discovered the pawpaw this year and is obsessed and wants to grow them in our urban yard 😂 but apparently they’re stinky and I don’t think we have space for it. lol.

Ooh! A friend of mine who lives in Marietta and is a chef and food writer wrote a book about pawpaw cooking! I still haven't tried one though she sent me pawpaw butter one year and it was delicious. She also wrote a book about foraging. This is her website with both books: http://www.sausagetarian.com/news

I'll look up Alexis! That sounds really fun, thank you. :)
